South Texas Lyric Opera

The South Texas Lyric Opera (STLO), Inc. was originally founded in 2005 as the ProCantus Lyric Opera and is a community-based, locally funded non-profit organization that is underwritten by South Texas College and is dedicated to producing the highest quality opera, oratorios, musicals and concert performances in the region. It was created under the leadership of Maestro Mazias de Oliveira, in partnership with his wife, Edinir de Oliveira and a dedicated board of trustees consisting of residents and working professionals from across the Rio Grande Valley.

The company has produced such memorable operas as Mascagni’s “Cavalleria Rusticana”, Pucinni’s “La Bohéme” and “Tosca”, and Verdi’s “La Traviata” and “Rigoletto”. Their beloved Christmas opera, “Amahl and the Night Visitors” has also educated and entertained more than 7,000 students from across the Rio Grande Valley.
