Educational Attractions and Resources

Learning isn’t boring when you’re exploring McAllen. There are so many fun activities, exhibits and events that your kids might forget they’re learning at the same time.

International Museum of Art and Science

Located at the intersection of Bicentennial Blvd and Nolana Ave.

Science on a Sphere: This stunning global display utilizes projectors and computers to display information on a sphere that is 6 feet in diameter. The exhibit showcases the science of Earth and life.

ICONS: Stained Glass Windows display to take a glimpse into the history of stained glass windows that date as far back as 1914.

For Kids: Explore water systems with the “Smart About Water” program or the discovery pavilion!

McAllen Heritage Center

Located in historic downtown McAllen is a museum filled with history about McAllen’s origins. At the museum you and your family can learn from the energetic and exciting story-telling sessions and check out the “Traveling Trunks” program.

McAllen Library

The McAllen Library system consists of three branches: the Main library, the Lark Branch and the Palm View Branch. Coming soon...the NEW McAllen Main Library...

During Art Walk: the Main branch, located on Main Street in the Arts District, transforms into a venue for artists, poets, performers and musicians.

Each branch has a variety of special programs, contests and events that are both fun and educational for kids of all ages.

Veteran’s War Memorial of Texas

Located in McAllen’s Convention Center District, the Veteran’s War Memorial of Texas honors those who served our nation in the armed forces. The 5-acre site, which is still growing, features black granite walls with soldiers’ names etched on, as well as stunning statues of troops. Coming soon...the American Spire of Honor, which broke ground early this year.

Museum of South Texas History

The Museum of South Texas History, located just 12 minutes north of McAllen, is a great place to discover the rich history of the South Texas Region and our Mexican neighbors. The museum is open to the public and has a variety of exhibits, including the Rio Grande Legacy that explores the history of the Rio Grande River and the Old Jail that dates back to 1910.
