The McAllen Art Walk continues Friday night with art galleries, museums and other venues on Main Street and beyond participating.

Hands-on crafts, art exhibits and jewelry are a few of the features of the McAllen Memorial Library.

Children and teens are invited to create papel picado, or perforated paper, a Mexican folk art.

The local band spotlight will be focused on Surf Ballroom.

In an effort to help alleviate congestion and to re-anchor Artwalk on south Main Street, the McAllen Chamber of Commerce will be offering space to street vendors at Archer Park during upcoming Artwalk on Friday, February 4th.

The McAllen Chamber of Commerce will be renting space at Archer Park for $15 during January Artwalk. The City of McAllen will provide lighting for the event at no extra cost.

"The area around Main and Hackberry has become very congested with street vendors trying to show and sell their goods and wares, and we feel that this is the best way to help with this growing concern,: said Greg Schuller, Cultural Arts Director for the McAllen Chamber of Commerce. "Opening up Archer Park to these vendors is also a way to encourage people visiting Artwalk to continue south and take in other Artwalk participants located nearer this end of Main Street."

All street vendors interested in showing at Archer Park should contact Greg Schuller at 687-2787 or Maritza Munoz at 682-2871 as soon as possible. Vendors will be required to provide their own tables and chairs.

When: 6pm to 10pm Friday February 5th, 2011

Where: 601 N. Main Street, McAllen

Cost: Free
