With so many astronomical events currently
taking place, such as Curiosity’s, NASA’s rover, landing on Mars, and
the Perseids Meteor Shower during the upcoming weekend, the
International Museum of Art & Science will be hosting a “Stars &
Skies” Party on the evening of August 12, 2012 from 4:00p.m. to
9:30p.m. IMAS welcomes the entire community to join in the festivities.
As we wait for the sun to set, IMAS will be filled with fun, “out of this world” activities like Journey to Mars, The Astronaut Challenge, and The Moon Room.
Create your very own Star Finder, funky Asteroids and Meteorites, or
Moon Phase Birthday Pendant. Once the moon rises and the stars come
out, telescopes will fill the IMAS front lawn and members of the
community will be able to explore the nighttime sky. Additionally, for
anyone who owns an iPod, iPad, or Smart Phone, the Education Staff will
be onsite to teach anyone who is interested about the latest
technologies and applications that can be used to learn more about our
solar system, constellations, and space!
Accompanying
us on Sunday evening will also be the UTPA Planetarium, along with Dr.
Kamal Sarkar’s UTPA mechanical engineer students who competed in NASA’s
Lunabotics Mining Vehicle Competition this past December.
This
event is FREE for IMAS Members, and General Admission Rates apply to
the public. For more information, please call IMAS at (956) 682-0123 or
visit www.imasonline.org.
IMAS dedicates this event to the memory of Oscar Cardenas and his many
years of active and enthusiastic involvement in IMAS astronomy events.
