“Iraqi Women of
Three Generations: Challenges, Education, and Hopes for Peace” will be
on display in the Library’s First Floor Art Gallery, September 4-28,
2012. This exhibit of photographs and stories was assembled by Dr.
Martha Ann Kirk and Dr. Patricia Madigan with content from summer
research trips to Iraq in 2010, 2011, and 2012. Dr. Kirk is a professor
of Religious Studies at the University of the Incarnate Word in San
Antonio. Dr. Patricia Madigan is Director of the Dominican Centre for
Interfaith Ministry, Education and Research in Sydney, Australia.
The exhibit documents Iraqi women’s resilience, courage, and compassion
that encourage understanding and healing across cultures and religions.
The exhibit and Dr. Kirk’s visit to UTPA are sponsored through the
generosity of the Gülen Institute at the University of Houston.
Dr. Kirk will be at UTPA all day on September 10. When she is not
speaking to various UTPA classes she will be in the Library’s First
Floor Art Gallery with the exhibit until about 5 pm.
