Country singer Carrie Underwood is set to perform on Friday, September 6 at the State Farm Arena in Hidalgo.
The superstar will headline at the STARS Scholarship Fund concert this year. Every year, STARS hosts an event to fundraise money for college scholarships. The program aims at raising money for students across the South Texas region. In 2012 alone, the STARS Scholarship Fund concert raised over $2.3 million and supported around 1,100 students.
"If we keep getting South Texas and the Valley to step up in education, then we'll see the Valley go up," said Greg LaMantia, Vice Chairman of the STARS program. "Because my father always liked to say, 'no matter how big the boat behind the dam, the water rises, all the boats rise. The little boats rise and the big boats rise.' So it's extremely important that we continue to push for education."
In past years, artists like Brad Paisley, Blake Shelton, and Sugarland have starred in the event.
Guests can enjoy a dinner and auction prior to the concert performance. The event will offer six table options for sponsors, organizations, businesses, or individuals seeking to support the fundraiser. Tickets go on sale Friday, July 12. Click here for details, or Ticketmaster, to purchase public tickets. Ticket prices range from $75 to $200.
