Fun Things for Kids to Do in McAllen This Fall

Located at 2601 Lark Ave., McAllen, TX 78504, Lark Community Center offers two fall sessions:

Session 1: September 7 – October 9 | Session 2: October 12 – November 6

Program fees are based on class length:

  • 30 minutes: Residents $18 | Non-Residents $23
  • 45 minutes: Residents $23 | Non-Residents $30
  • 60 minutes: Residents $30 | Non-Residents $40

Get Creative with Art, Dance & Performance

For kids who love expressing themselves, Lark Community Center has plenty of opportunities to draw, dance, perform, and build confidence this fall.

Manga Comics & More

Monday & Wednesday | Ages 7–12 | 6:35 PM – 7:20 PM

Kids can create their own masterpieces in cartoon, comic, or anime styles. Each piece is designed to be unique and filled with personality. At the end of each session, parents and children participate in a special art activity, and artwork is displayed at the Lark Art Gala.

Gracious Ballet

Tuesday & Thursday | Ages 3–5: 6:35 PM – 7:05 PM | Ages 6–8: 7:10 PM – 7:55 PM

Young dancers can discover the classic art of ballet while learning positions, coordination, and balance. Each session concludes with a recital where family and friends can watch participants perform. Ballet shoes are recommended.

Cheer & Dance

Monday & Wednesday | Ages 3–5: 6:00 PM – 6:30 PM | Ages 6–8: 6:35 PM – 7:20 PM

Learn exciting cheers, chants, and dance routines with experienced instructors. Each session ends with a Cheer & Dance performance for family and friends.

K-Pop at Lark

Monday & Wednesday | Ages 7–12 | 7:25 PM – 8:10 PM

Kids can learn choreographed dances inspired by popular K-Pop groups, including BTS, Black Pink, Big Bang, and others. The session concludes with a performance for the whole family.

Indoor & Outdoor Rec-Sports

Monday & Wednesday | Ages 3–5: 6:00 PM – 6:30 PM | Ages 6–8: 6:35 PM – 7:20 PM

Kids receive a basic introduction to skills and techniques used in popular sports like baseball, tennis, volleyball, softball, and more. Tennis shoes are required, and equipment is provided, although participants may bring their own gear.

Gymnastics

Monday & Wednesday | Ages 5–6: 6:35 PM – 7:05 PM | Ages 7–12: 7:10 PM – 7:55 PM

Kids can learn the basics of this popular Olympic sport while developing their gymnastics skills. Each session ends with a choreographed performance.

Tiny Larks Basketball

Monday & Wednesday | Ages 3–4 | 6:00 PM – 6:30 PM

Little athletes learn basketball fundamentals including passing, dribbling, and shooting through age-appropriate drills. The session ends with a showcase where participants demonstrate their new skills.

Tiny Lark Baseball

Tuesday & Thursday | Ages 3–4 | 6:00 PM – 6:30 PM

America’s favorite pastime gets a kid-friendly introduction! Young players learn basic baseball skills and showcase what they’ve learned in an end-of-session All-Star baseball game.

Mini Lark’s Volleyball

Tuesday & Thursday | Ages 3–4 | 6:00 PM – 6:30 PM

This first introduction to volleyball teaches young participants tossing, catching, and beginner volleyball movements in a supportive environment.

Tiny’s Soccer

Monday & Wednesday | Ages 3–4 | 6:00 PM – 6:30 PM

Young athletes can discover the excitement of soccer while learning introductory skills that help prepare them for future play.

Build Confidence & Learn Something New

Fall is also a great time for kids to explore interests beyond traditional sports.

Tae Kwon Do Universe

Tuesday & Thursday | Ages 3–5: 6:00 PM – 6:30 PM | Ages 6–8: 6:35 PM – 7:20 PM

Participants learn discipline, respect, basic kicks, and basic hand movements while practicing with pads and shields. Each session concludes with a showcase of the skills learned in class.

NASA STEM Minds

Tuesday & Thursday | Ages 7–13 | 6:00 PM – 6:45 PM

Science, technology, engineering, and mathematics come together through hands-on activities using Legos, popsicle sticks, pipe cleaners, and other creative supplies.

Chess Club

Monday & Wednesday | Ages 7–12 | 6:50 PM – 7:35 PM

Kids learn the pieces, rules, and strategies behind the international game of chess before putting their skills to the test in an end-of-session tournament.

Tumbling

Monday & Wednesday | Ages 3–4 | 6:00 PM – 6:30 PM

Children follow instructions from coaches while learning basic movements including rolls, twists, jumps, and other mat activities.

With McAllen programs for children as young as three and two sessions running from September through November, families can find an activity that fits their child’s interests and helps make the most of the fall season.
