Looking for a fun way to beat the South Texas heat? McAllen’s public pools offer plenty of opportunities to stay cool, stay active, and enjoy the summer with family and friends. From public swim times and lap swimming to swim lessons for all ages, there’s something for everyone this season. For more information, call (956) 681-3320.

Swimming Hours Open to the Public

June 5 – August 8 at Municipal Pool | Los Encinos

Public swimming:  $2.50 per person | $2 per person

  • Friday: 1 PM – 4:45 PM
  • Saturday: 1 PM – 5:45 PM

Lap Swimming:  $1 per person

  • Tuesday – Friday: 6:00 AM – 8:00 AM
  • Tuesday – Friday: 10:00 AM – 1:00 PM
  • Saturday & Sunday: 5:00 AM – 10:00 AM

Looking for more than just a day at the pool? McAllen Aquatics offers a variety of programs designed to help residents stay active, learn new skills, and enjoy the water all summer long. From lap swimming and swim lessons to adaptive programs and lifeguard training, there are plenty of opportunities to dive in.

Learn to Swim Programs

McAllen Aquatics offers swim lessons for children, teens, and adults at Municipal Pool and Los Encinos Pool. These programs focus on water safety, confidence-building, and developing swimming skills appropriate for each age group.

Participants are assessed by instructors to ensure they are placed in the appropriate skill level, helping swimmers progress safely and confidently in the water.

Registration fees:

  • Residents: $30
  • Non-Residents: $40

Adaptive Aquatics

Adaptive Aquatics classes are available for participants ages 6–17 and are designed to provide a supportive environment where swimmers can develop water skills, confidence, and independence while enjoying the benefits of aquatic recreation.

Lifeguard Certification

Lifeguard Certification

Interested in becoming a certified lifeguard? McAllen Aquatics offers American Red Cross Lifeguard Certification courses designed to prepare participants with the knowledge and skills needed to respond to aquatic emergencies. Training includes instruction in First Aid, CPR, AED usage, oxygen administration, and blood-borne pathogens training. Participants must successfully pass a pre-course swimming skills test before enrolling in the certification program.

Prerequisites

Participants must be able to:

  • Swim 200 yards continuously using either the front crawl or breaststroke.
  • Tread water in deep water without using their hands for 2 minutes.
  • Retrieve a 10-pound dive weight from a depth of 7 feet.
  • Surface dive and swim 20 yards while carrying the weight using legs only.
  • Exit the pool without using a ladder within 100 seconds.
