Sunday, July 21st is National Ice Cream Day! If you’ve been wanting to enjoy a double scoop on a waffle cone, then now you can do so! It’ll be the perfect way to cool down from the summer heat! Check out this list of some of McAllen’s delicious ice cream shops to visit on Sunday!

Delicias Tortas Y Paletas

This popular location is known for its “Tortas Gigantes,” but it also has a variety of Mexican paletas de agua y leche!

  • It’s open on Monday through Saturday from 10:00 AM until 10:00 PM and Sunday from 11:00 AM until 9:00 PM.

Rolling with Cream

This is the Rio Grande Valley’s first Thai-inspired ice cream roll establishment! Their ice cream lacks the extra preservatives, emulsifiers, and stabilizers found in regular ice cream brands and brings you nothing but the freshest treat!

  • It’s open Sunday through Thursday from 1:00 PM until 10:00 PM and Friday and Saturday from 1:00 PM until 11:00 PM.

Paleteria Y Neveria Yusma

This shop is known for offering Mexican-style paletas, ice cream, raspas, milkshakes, smoothies, and more!

This coming weekend will be full of family-friendly events! Enjoy the Texas Hunter’s and Sportsman’s Expo all weekend long, Movies in the Park on Saturday, and a live performance from Caravana Del Amor on Sunday. Check these and many more events out below!

Friday, July 19th

  • Test your photography skills at Photo Fun Fridays at Quinta Mazatlán from 10:00 AM until 11:00 AM. Park admission is $3.00.
  • Stop by the Texas Hunter’s & Sportsman’s Expo at the McAllen Convention Center from 5:00 PM until 9:00 PM. This event will also be held from 10:00 AM until 7:00 PM on Saturday and from 11:00 AM until 6:00 PM on Sunday. Admission prices are $12.00 for adults, $10.00 for seniors, and free for children 12 and under.
  • Intro to Poi (Art of Fire-Spinning) will take place at the McAllen Nature Center from 6:15 PM until 7:00 PM. A donation of $1.00 per participant is suggested.
  • Join Sunset Yoga at the McAllen Nature Center from 7:00 PM until 8:00 PM. There is a suggested donation of $1.00.
  • Have some laughs at Friday Night Funnies: Christmas in July Edition at London Grill & Tavern from 8:00 PM until 10:00 PM. Pre-sale tickets are available online for $6.00. Click here to purchase.

Cinemark to Launch CUT! Dine-In Theatre in McAllen

Cinemark Holdings, Inc. recently announced plans to add an eight-screen dine-in theatre at La Plaza Mall called CUT!

CUT! Dine-In Theatre will feature made-to-order menu items and specialty cocktails for patrons to enjoy during movies, as well as dining, lounge and patio areas.

Plus, chef-prepared entrees, refreshing beverages, and traditional snacks delivered discreetly to your seat with the push of a button will also be available!

“The Valley’s movie fans will really enjoy this great new theatre from Cinemark at La Plaza,” said Isabel Rodriguez, La Plaza Mall’s Director of Marketing and Business Development. “This will be a fantastic addition to the center.”

Construction is scheduled to begin in April 2020 with plans to open in early 2021.

  • Come to a fun-filled presentation by Sea Turtle Inc. at the McAllen Public Library from 2:00 PM until 3:00 PM.
  • Celebrate GOMA Boutique’s Grand Opening with a Fashion and Beauty Event from 12:00 PM until 6:00 PM.
  • Stop by Moonstruck Market for the Beat the Heat Summer Sale Event from 9:00 AM until 3:00 PM. This event will continue on Saturday from 9:00 AM until 2:00 PM.
  • Discover local artisans at Semilla Coffee Lab’s Jewelry Pop-Up event from 4:00 PM until 9:00 PM.
  • Join Sunset Yoga at the McAllen Nature Center from 7:00 PM until 8:00 PM. There is a suggested donation of $1 per person.
  • Enjoy live music from Lauren Corzine at McAllen Food Park Unplugged from 8:00 PM until 10:00 PM.

Get Ready to Celebrate the Fourth of July in McAllen with All of These Family-Friendly Events!

Bring the whole family for the City of McAllen’s Independence Day Celebration presented by HEB! Enjoy a parade full of patriotic floats, musical performances, food, fireworks, and more this Thursday.

Thursday, July 4th

  • 8:00 AM – The Patriotic Program will take place at the Archer Park Stand. Here, you and your family can take an opportunity to reflect and recognize the true meaning of our Independence Day.
  • 9:00 AM – The Main Street Parade will begin with a route starting at Houston St. and continuing to Beech St.
  • 10:00 AM – The Freedom Festival at Archer Park will start and end at 2:00 PM. You can expect classic family fun, music, food, games, and more!
  • 1:00 PM – Aquatica Extreme will start at the Municipal Pool until 4:00 PM. There is a fee of $2.50 per person. Expect a lot of fun for everyone! The event will include games, contests, crafts, music, and more!
  • 6:00 PM – The Independence Day 4K Run at Municipal Park will begin. The packet pick-up will also begin at 6:00 PM and the race begins at 7:00 PM. There will be a fee of $20 per person. You can register online by clicking here.
  • 7:00 PM – Concert in the Sky Extravaganza at Municipal Park will be held until 10:00 PM. There will be plenty of games, food, music, and entertainment.
  • 9:00 PM – An amazing Fireworks Show will begin at 1921 N. Bicentennial Blvd.!

  • Celebrate Fantasyland Skate Center’s Grand Opening from 1:00 PM until 11:00 PM.
  • Summer Solstice Social at The Gremlin is scheduled to happen from 10:00 PM until 2:00 AM.
  • Roof 324 presents: Waikiki Tiki ROOF starting at 7:00 PM.
  • International Day of Yoga at the McAllen Nature Center will happen from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM.
  • Summer Tiki Party at Bourbon St. Grill will begin at 4:00 PM.
  • Summer Solstice at The Yard will begin at 6:00 PM. Bounce between the Aguas Frescas bar or the DJ booth, hula some hoops, or slurp your way to victory in the watermelon eating contest!
