It’s easy to be at home, catching a movie, watching some television and spending all day indoors. Why not take advantage of the great weather in the Rio Grande Valley by having some fun outside on “National Get Outdoors Day”? Also known as “Go Day”, June 11th will be the perfect opportunity to explore the outdoors in McAllen!
FREE Tai Chi, Yoga and Scavenger Hunt
The McAllen Nature Center has a weekly scheduled series of events for individuals and families all the way until September! From yoga to special informational events – all for free – visitors can spend June 11th exploring, learning and having fun with the entire family!

Pedal Boats, Kayaks and Paddle Boats
Fireman’s Park in McAllen has some great boat rentals for a day of enjoyment that the whole family can participate in! Have a kayak race with mom and dad or pedal your heart out with your significant other! From now until October, you can attend Wednesday through Friday from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM or Saturday through Sunday from 2:00 PM to 8:00 PM.

Discovery Days and More!
Quinta Mazatlan hosts a variety of perfectly fun events for your little ones while allowing them to learn about some of nature’s smallest critters! You can learn about species of birds during Song Bird Stroll, volunteer your time with different projects or have a blast with their Discovery Days program. On Saturday Discovery Days, the entire family can learn about seabirds, sea creatures, sand castles and how oceans make waves. Remember to bring your swimsuit because you might even run into a big SPLASH! The general attendance fee is $3.

Want to feel the wind blow through your hair? Want to be free to have an adventure? You can use McAllen’s bike sharing program! First, find a bike-share location. There are eight around McAllen with two at the McAllen Convention Center. With a credit card, you can purchase a 24-hour rental at these stations or online. From there, ride and explore McAllen! Ride to another location or return to the same one where you rented. B-Cycles can be returned to any station. Ride all throughout McAllen!
Take a Dip
Instead of hiding indoors, make a splash in the pool! The McAllen Municipal Pool, Los Encinos Pool and Cascade Swimming Pool are all open on Saturday and Sunday for your entire family. With tables and picnic areas available, you can spend the day splishing and splashing. Remember your sunscreen!
